Cleator Moor Celtic boss Dene White has left his side on a high after they were victorious in the Shipowners Cup.

The side travelled to Richmond Town for White’s final game in charge. They took with them 150 supporters and the boys in green and white delivered.

It was a closely fought game, which was delayed at half-time for 40 minutes due to thunder and lightning, and the match saw Cleator Moor run out 4-2 winners with goals from Luke Close, Callum Birdsall (2) and Josh Charlton.

Cleator Moor last won the Shipowners Cup in 2013.

Manager White said: “It was a day full of mixed emotions for me, sheer delight at winning the cup for a second time, but sad knowing that it would be my last game in charge.”

White has been in charge for five seasons and has seen his side finish fourth in the league three times and twice in third, the highest the club has ever finished in the Wearside League.

He has also taken them to four cup finals, including the Shipowners Cup and twice into The Monkwearmouth Cup, losing on both occasions to Stockton Town.

He added: “I’ve had an amazing seven years with Cleator Moor Celtic.

"I must say how grateful and respectful I am to chairman Martin Mahone for giving me the opportunity to manage such a fantastic football club.

“They are in a good position and I wish them all the very best for the future and I will certainly be there to cheer them on whenever I can.

"I’ve known these lads a long time now and many of the youngsters have come through the clubs junior section and I knew all of them before they got to me.

“Every single one of them has always given me their all without question and they are a fantastic group of young men with a very close bond and friendship.

“It was hard for me to tell them after the game that it was my last, but what a way to go out with a fantastic trophy being taken back to Cleator Moor.”
