West Cumbrian Glenn Murray can offer even more to the Brighton and Hove Albion cause, according to manager Chris Hughton.

Striker Murray, who began his career at Workington Reds and was then a part of Carlisle United’s teams that won back-to-back promotions in 2005 and 2006, marked his first 90 minutes of the season with two goals in Brighton’s 3-0 win over West Ham on Friday.

Murray, from Maryport, has struggled with injuries in the early stages of the season, although appears to be starting to find form.

“For him it’s great confidence. He’s been out for a period of time and it’s been difficult for him,” Hughton said.

“He did great, [played] 90 minutes, but he’s missed a lot of football. He can’t be fully up to speed yet and it’s our responsibility to get him through the next few weeks.”

“On a personal note, I am very happy,” 34-year-old Murray added to The Argus .

“It’s been a very stop-start, start to the season, frustrating for me, but now I feel as though I’m up and running.”

Last season’s leading marksman Murray played a key role in the Seagulls’ promotion to the Premiership.

He joined Brighton on a season-long loan from Bournemouth ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, before the club signed him on a permanent basis in January.

Murray has played for Wilmington Hammerheads in America, Barrow and Rochdale, while he had loan spells at Stockport County and Reading, too.
