Workington Town head coach Phil Veivers says he won’t be reading too much into the result of this weekend’s pre-season fixture with Barrow Raiders.

Town kick off their pre-season campaign with a trip to Craven Park in the first of three friendlies before the 2016 Championship season begins next month.

“I’m not going to read too much into the result of the game on Sunday,” he told News & Star Sport.

“We’ll be using the game as an extension of our pre-season training and as part of our preparations for the new season.

“Because it’s game-related, it’s a different type of fitness the players will be working on and you can’t replicate that in training.”

Veivers believes he will have 18 or 19 players to take down to south Cumbria and insists he won’t be rushing any of his rehabbing players back.

“I’ve got 18 or 19 that will play this weekend,” he continued. “You’d like to have everyone available but you have to go with what you’ve got.

“I’m not going to rush any of our players who have had surgery and it’s not likely that we’ll see them before Round One.

“I’ve got a squad of 25 so we should be able to cope with injuries and it gives a chance for other players to come in and stake their claim for places in that side.”
