Seaton Rangers second-row Liam Wood says he owes a lot to outgoing head coaches Les Ashe and Neil ‘Gus’ Frazer after being called up to BARLA’s U-23 Great Britain squad.
Wood received his call-up to the side which will tour Jamaica in May on the back of a successful double-cup winning season with the Rangers.
He was then selected to represent Cumbria in the Tri-Counties Championship, which his home county comfortably won against Yorkshire and Lancashire.
“It’s a great achievement and it’s on the back of a great year with Seaton,” Wood said.
“We had two great coaches last year in Les and Gus and I learned a lot from them.
“I owe a lot to both.
“Last year was the first time I’d won anything with Seaton so it was great winning two cups and hopefully we’ll be able to build on that next year.”
Wood joined Seaton five years ago after a stint with Salterbeck Storm.
And, after the first few weeks of pre-season training, the youngster says he can’t wait to kick-off 2016.
“We’ve got great numbers at the club at the moment and there are a great bunch of young lads coming through,” he continued.
“It’s about helping them find their feet and we are all mucking in as a team to help them with that.”
