Smurfit Kappa Premier Division side Aspatria secured the runners-up spot with a narrow win on the road at Silloth.

A Wayne Iredale brace and one from Sean Law secured all three points and a second-placed finish on goal difference after Carlisle City beat visitors Wigton Harriers 2-1 after goals from Mike Mull and Kyle McClean.

Adam Carr and Andrew Trestianu scored for Silloth in their 3-2 defeat with Johnny Studholme getting Harriers’ goal in their loss.

In Division One, Cleator Moor Celtic kept their chance of winning the title alive with a 2-0 home win over Bransty Rangers, with goals from Craig Scott and Ryan Hall keeping them on leaders Frizington Whitestar’s shirt tails.

Whitehaven Amateurs made the short journey over the Recreation Ground and took all three points at Whitehaven Miners Reserves in a 5-3 triumph.

A Robb Carr hat-trick and a brace from Declan Stamper secured the points for Amateurs with Miners replying through a brace for Kieren Fraser, and Jack Harrison completing the scoring.

Saturday saw the Smurfit Kappa Conway Cup Final contested by Premier League champions Workington Athletic and Division One contenders Cleator Moor Celtic.

Athletic took an early lead through Matthew Perry, only for Celtic to pen them back through Ryan Hall to level it up at 1-1.

Craig Scott put Celtic in front midway through the second half as Celtic looked to cause a shock, only for Stuart Gray to level things up again, scoring for Athletic.

The game looked to be progressing into extra time, when Athletic’s Ashley Kelly broke down the right in the 91st minute and sent a cross over for Stuart Gray to connect and send the trophy back to Workington with Workington Athletic retaining the trophy after this 3-2 win.

Both teams should be really proud as the performance was exceptional and the game could have gone either way.

The last final place of the year was secured when Bransty Rangers travelled to Carlisle City in the Ken Glover Memorial Shield Semi-Final after a real game of two halves. The first half was all the home side with Carlisle City taking a two-goal lead into half time with goals from Marc Galimore and Jay Green.

But the second half saw Rangers regain some of their recent form to level the game and put it into extra time after goals from Mike Garroway and Bradley O’Pray.

In extra-time, Bransty went with experience over youth and threw on veteran Ryan Cornish to make a nuisance, which paid off as they bagged the winner in this thriller to send the visitors to their second final of the season.

In the Smurfit Kappa Premier League, Silloth travelled to Whitehaven Miners and kept up hopes of finishing in the runners-up place with a fine 4-2 win.

Their goals came from Ellis Gardhouse, Calum Casson, Kieran Little and Andrew Trestianu, with Chris Moore and Jack Harrison replying for Miners.

Whitehaven Miners Reserves and Windscale couldn’t raise a team; so both games were postponed and will need to be replayed.
