Wigton Amateur Boxing Club is preparing to host its second home show this year in December.

Having held their first show at the Greenhill Hotel, the club will be returning to the same venue, just outside Wigton, on Saturday, December 1.

Coach Andi Crossman said: “This is the second of our bi-annual shows this year. We had our first one in May.

“To keep the club running, we need the funds that the show will generate.

“All 14 of the Wigton ABC boxers will be fighting against boxers from all over the country at it. In May, we had boxers from Sheffield and the North East.”

Crossman says the club decided to again use the Greenhill Hotel after their support last time as Wigton ABC encountered some last-minute problems.

He said: “We underwent some problems last time, and we had to change the time of the show because of licencing issues. Wayne [Jackson, co-owner] at the Greenhill was really helpful with that.”

Tickets are priced at £200 for a table of 10 and Crossman said: “We have already sold five tables, they are going really fast.”

In the meantime, Wigton ABC have made an encouraging start to the new season.

Crossman added: “We have so many projects under way. We have two boxers [Robbie Pattinson, who is a club senior, and junior Jack Dixon] boxing in the regional finals tomorrow.

“The club is buzzing and it is really exciting to see.

"We have 14 boxers in total this season, which is record-breaking.

"For such a small town, it is unbelievable, really.”
