Workington Town are now secure in the Betfred League One play-offs with one week of the regular season remaining.

But who do you believe has helped the most to get them into the promotion race this term?

Here is your chance to make your selection to win the Times & Star / News & Star Player of the Year.

HELEN THOMPSON looks at five possible winners. Then it is all up to you to decide who wins.

SEAN PENKYWICZ

THE experienced hooker has made a big impact since joining Workington Town at the start of the season.

He controls the game well and Town look more dangerous when he is on the park.

Has also been nominated for the League One player of the year award.

JAMIE DORAN

THE young half-back is crucial to the success of the side, as shown by the contract extension he signed during the season, keeping him at Derwent Park for the forseeable future.

Exciting with the ball in hand, he takes the line on well and creates gaps, with a good kicking game to boot.

Described as an ‘X-factor player’ by coach Leon Pryce, he is often the go-to man when Town need to pull something out of the bag to seal a game.

OLLIE WILKES

THE Town skipper has been a strong force in the pack all season, driving forward and playing more than his fair share of minutes on the field.

The former Super League player’s experience has also been key this season, using it to full effect to organise the team.

Never shying away from making the hard yards, the elder statesman of the side has already tasted promotion success with Barrow last term and has been determined to help Town emulate them this year.

ANDREW DAWSON

IN my opinion, one of the real unsung heroes of the Town pack. He lifts the team with his arrival on the field, often off the bench.

And he drives forward hard and puts more than his fair share of tackles in game after game.

Was outstanding in the Challenge Cup game against London Broncos where Town nearly toppled the Super League giants.

ELLIOTT MILLER

BACK in the Workington fold after a spell with Whitehaven, Miller has shown he has not lost any of the spark that makes him such an exciting player to watch.

He certainly knows his way to the try-line with 15 touchdowns in the league alone, including a hat-trick against Keighley.

His footwork causes problems for the opposition and is also solid in the last line of defence.

T o vote, send in your selection via email to helen.thompson @newsquest.co.uk with ‘Town POY’ in the subject line.

T he deadline for votes is midnight next Thursday (September 27).
