The nomination period for the Cumbria Sports Awards is due to open on October 1.

This year supported by United Utilities, the prestigious annual event will be held on November 30 at The Low Wood Bay Hotel, Windermere.

It recognises the outstanding talents, commitment and successes of teams and individuals throughout Cumbria who are involved in sport as well as highlighting the dedication and commitment of the vast number of volunteers, coaches and others behind the scenes who make sport happen across the county.

The event has attracted many high-profile guest speakers over the years, and this year, former World and European Championship medallist runner Jenny Meadows will attend.

Now an inspirational speaker, Meadows will share the highs and lows of her career as one of Britain’s leading female athletes in a question-and-answer session with event host BBC Radio Cumbria’s Mike Zeller.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to attending the Cumbria Sports Awards on November 30.

“I’m aware of the calibre of nominees and winners from previous editions of the awards with last year’s Sports Personality of the Year Award going to a fellow team-mate of mine, Nick Miller, for his performances in the hammer event.”

While Scotby’s Miller won Cumbria Sports Personality of the Year last year, Cumbria Coach of the Year went to Carlisle’s Paul Simpson, and the Be Inspired Award went to Gary McKee.

Nominations can be made for finest individual achievement, best team achievement, extra dedicated young person, disability performance of the year and in many other categories.

With the deadline for nominations on October 19, they can be made online at www.activecumbria.org/cumbriasportsawards.
