Monarchs aiming to strengthen for Comets

EDINBURGH Monarchs may make a change for their week-end double clash with the Workington Comets – which could make them stronger.
The Premier Trophy group leaders have possibly hit their first injury worry of the season with a back problem sustained by Thomas Jonasson at the weekend.
The young Swede felt the problem when he jarred his back in one of his heats at Glasgow, and he will visit his local doctor in Sweden to get his opinion.
It's not known if the injury is a recurrance of a pre-season injury suffered while snowboarding during pre-season training with his Polish team.
He feels at the moment that he may have to rest for a few days and could miss the important matches with Workington this weekend.
Monarchs’ promoter John Campbell said “It’s the last thing we wanted, though I knew at Glasgow that Thomas wasn’t 100 per cent.
“What we really need for him is an injury free run while he learns about the UK tracks to develop his full potential over here.
“Hopefully the problem will clear up and we will see him at the weekend.”
The Monarchs’ promotion believed they had made one of their best-ever signings in securing the services of the young Swedish Elite League rider who finished in a fine sixth place in last season’s World Under-21 Championship.
He scored 10 points in the Under-21 final at Ostrow, Poland last year, finishing ahead of such riders as Elite Leaguers Lewis Bridger and Edward Kennett and the Czech Filip Sitera, who was so impressive in his brief UK tour at the end of last year.
He is regarded as one of Sweden’s finest prospects for some time, and still has two years left in the Under-21 title chase. His long term aim is a place in the World Championship Grand Prix series.
But in four matches so far for the Monarchs he hasn’t really got to grips with the three tracks he has encountered.
