Red card spells end of Howard Rangers fightback

The goals flowed at Melbourne Park as Howard Rangers conceded three in the first 45 minutes.
They made the worst possible start as Craig Thompson netted for Brampton after only two minutes and Lee Thompson added another three minutes later and it appeared to be game over as Craig Thompson claimed his second.
Rangers began to assert themselves in the second period and as they poured forward Jonathan Ashurst (two) and Aiden Hanley brought them level.
But their hopes were dashed near the end when Jamie Law was dismissed for handling to prevent a goal. Andy McKinnell whipped in the resultant penalty.
Martyn Coward then added a fifth against a depleted home side.
In another Carlisle City Sunday League Premiership game, Harraby Catholic beat Spinners 4-0 to go to the top of the table.
Veteran Steve Bell’s hat-trick and Mark McKenzie did the damage.
The Second Division clash between two well matched sides Unisun Athletic ‘A’ and Beehive ended goalless.
Parkland took over top spot after sinking Warwick Wanderers 2-0 thanks to Simon Tucker and Jordan English.
After leading 2-0 at the halfway stage through Rikki Lee James and Matthew Chandler, Pippins went on to defeat FC Longtown 6-1 with further goals by James, Jamie Atkinson’s brace and Mark Graham’s cracking long range volley.
Johnny Templeton notched Longtown’s late consoler.
Royal Scot went down 4-1 at Upperby Park after going ahead against the run of play through Scott Thompson.
Evergreen Les Armstrong levelled things up from a penalty 10 minutes before the turn.
Upperby took the initiative after the re-start as Callum Johnstone’s fine strike and another successful spot-kick by Armstrong put them 3-1 up.
Joel Vilchez was outstanding in Upperby’s defence as the visitors tried to get back into the game and Jordan Cowley’s well directed shot wrapped up the points.
Great Corby and Walkabout shared the spoils 3-3.
Wayne Read put the former in front. Chris Irvine, making his debut, added a second and Martin Scott lashed in a 25 yard free-kick to make it 3-0 and only a great save by keeper Ross Davidson prevented a fourth.
Walkabout improved dramatically as Ty Crook reduced the leeway with a header and efforts by Chris Kelleher and Martin Carr earned them a point.
Third Division top dogs Moorhouse thrashed basement club Shoulder of Mutton 10-0 to make it six wins on the bounce. Martin Shepherd and Joe Robinson both grabbed hat-tricks helped by Jamie Brown (2), Andy Plunkett and Rob Gale.
Wheatsheaf are still waiting for their first home success after going down 2-1 to UMI Exiles whose marksmen were George Armstrong and Tim Jackson.
Ex-Servicemen had the better of the exchanges in the opening hour as Michael Lauder gave them the edge and Gavin Nixon along with Chris Graham twice were denied by the woodwork then St Aidan’s took control and went ahead with goals by Gareth Torrens and David Armstrong.
But two minutes from the end Jamie Boyce hit back to leave the teams locked 2-2.
Lloyds, after conceding a first minute goal by Chris Tiffen, recovered to beat Howard FC 5-2.
Dan Towers’ surging run and cross saw Chris Laird square matters then Towers added a second after being set up by Rob McCartney who later smashed home a 20 yard volley.
Towers added a fourth, finishing off Dan Armstrong’s pass then completed his second hat-trick of the season with a simple tap-in after Simon Clarke’s shot rebounded from the post.
John Feeney notched Howard’s second with a 20 yard rocket into the top corner.
Museum leapfrogged Joiners after defeating them 3-2.
Fourth Division leaders St Nicholas Arms continued on the goals trail as they whipped Thompsons FC 8-2 with strikes by Ian Grainger (4), Mike Swift, Mark Butler, Dan Palmer and Paul Lord.
New signing Phil Gilpin hit both the loser’s goals. Unisun Athletic ‘B’ moved off the bottom of the table by beating Stanwix 2-0 with James Cameron’s shot from just outside the box and a super long range volley by Rory Hick.
Ship Inn suffered players’ cry-offs and were duly punished 9-2 by Upperby FC.
Matthew Graham hit four, helped by Alan Maxfield (2), Stephen Read, Carl Campbell and Ryan Mellor’s 25 yard screamer on his debut.
A late controversial goal by Paul Neaves earned Botcherby a 2-1 verdict at Club Victoria Athletic. Ashley Mahoney claimed the other while Bruno Lapa netted for the hosts.
Despite being under strength BSW Timber were 5-0 too good for Pirelli. Craig Thorp (3), Liam Barnard and Paul Fiddler made up their tally.
Border Reiver, trailing 3-1 against Dalston Old Boys early in the second half, pulled it back to 3-3 after 70 minutes but conceded a goal five minutes later to go down 4-3.
Simon Underwood, John Steel, Andy Rogerson and Peter Doyle scored for the winners while Gareth Keelor (2) and Chris James found the net for Reiver.
