Recycling so easy

K & M Recycling Ltd is now in its fourth year of business and its fast, free service for the collection of scrap metal and textiles is proving increasingly popular with the public.
In fact the company, on Barrow’s Schneider Road, is doing so well that this year it has taken on two new staff.
It is a small firm but is offering very competitive prices for non-ferrous metals and household textiles.
Because it has mobile scales, it can complete the transaction on site, making recycling less complicated.
Many local businesses, schools and organisations also benefit from the services and the firm is always happy to offer advice on metal or textile queries.
It operates in Barrow and the whole of Furness, Millom/Copeland, Ulverston and the South Lakes.
The company is also prepared to collect ferrous metal scrap free of charge within Cumbria.
Some examples of non-ferrous metals it pays cash for are:
l Copper
l Brass
l Aluminium
l Stainless steel
l Lead
l Cable
Examples of ferrous metals it collects:
l Any old iron from cutlery to cars
In addition to its scrap metal service, K & M Recycling also recycles textiles. It will collect any used clothing from people’s homes and pay cash.
Old clothes, shoes, bags, bed linen, towels, socks and underwear can be recycled all over the world and it is the firm’s aim to intercept re-useable items from landfill.
Household textiles are 95 per cent recyclable, yet an incredible 1.5m tonnes went to landfill in 2009.
K & M Recycling offers free bins to all schools and organisations who are interested in improving their environmental friendliness and encouraging others in good recycling habits.
To this end it can deliver recycling bins to the Ulverston, Dalton and Askam areas.
It takes in a variety of textiles including:
l Old clothing
l Bed linen
l Curtains
l Cushion covers
l Handbags
l Belts
l Shoes and trainers
And on a bigger scale, the firm is happy to offer competitive rates for used machinery and will purchase anything from cranes to tools.
If it is not in working order, it can be considered for scrap – again K & M will pays rates accordingly.
The firm is a member of the Federation of Small Businesses and can be contacted by ringing 01229 837 100, mobile 07525 778 342 or visit the website www.kandmrecycling-barrowinfurness.co.uk.
