The Herbert Street property is owned by Martin and Hazel Broatch and he has spent the past five months updating it for 21st century living - with hopes that his efforts will signal the start of a successful career in property development.

"I've previously bought houses and rented them out," Martin said. "This is the first house I've bought to sell on and profits from its sale will go towards the purchase of another property."

Since buying the Herbert Street property, Martin has completely gutted it and rewired throughout. He has put in new double-glazed windows, replaced doors and fitted a new central heating boiler and thermostatic radiators, building all the piping into the wall for a modern look.

Impressively, he did all this all alongside his day job as a window cleaner.

"We’ve had the full house re-plastered and re-skimmed and the painters and decorators have been in. I did what I could on my own, getting the professionals in when needed," he said.

"A new kitchen and bathroom have been installed with quality fittings which look really good. And I've made an en-suite bathroom to one of the double bedrooms."

The house now has a good-sized living room with feature fire and surround, dining room, kitchen with integrated hob and oven and a shower room.

Upstairs are a large double room, slighter smaller double with the en-suite, and single bedroom. Outside is a back yard and a garage.

"It’s a Victorian terraced house and we’ve kept some of the original features – the coving, the plasterwork in the hallway, internal doors, skirting boards," Martin said.

"It has been very hard work but hopefully it will pay off and I'm confident there will be a profit in it. The house needed a lot of work but it’s a good finish and I’m very happy with it.”

The house is now for sale with BPK Estate Agents whose director Karl Dixon said: "What Mr and Mrs Broatch have done to this property is outstanding.

"They have not only entirely modernised the property but have managed to put their own individuality into the interior design without furnishing the property, which is not easy.

"A lot of thought and attention to detail has gone into this project. I hope the new owner will enjoy it for many years to come."
