Hunt supporting politicians have no place representing decent people
Polls consistently show that more than 75 per cent of the British people want the Hunting Act to remain as law but should John Stevenson be elected as Conservative MP for Carlisle, he intends to vote for repeal of this Act.

Happy Mother’s Day, the designer proggy is yours
All fingers and thumbs – every one of them swollen and sore. Ah yes, those were the days. Funny how pain can form so large a part of happy memory.

As a resident of Bright Street for over 20 years, and a Carlisle citizen for even longer, I find the behaviour surrounding the proposed building of a homeless complex on the former Newtown Road Bowling Green appalling.

Guess what? The nights are fair drawing out, again
Has spring sprung? This tongue-twister for beginners is a hot topic – or at least a warm one – as daffodils finally stir from the hardest winter in 30 years. Culture bid failure may have done Carlisle a favour
No one should run away with the idea that Carlisle’s UK City of Culture bid was a total, unmitigated failure. It was anything but.

I have lived in Cumbria for 25 years. For 13 of those years I taught creative writing at Cumbria Institute of the Arts and then for two years at the University of Cumbria. I was also, the elected staff representative on their board of directors.

Climate change: let us know if it really exists
First a barbecue summer, then a milder than usual winter, now a crumbling credibility, Hazel Bowmaker (Letters, The Cumberland News, February 19) seems to still have an unusual faith in the Met Office.

It’s a wonder we get anything done
As MP Eric Martlew expresses his disappointment with Carlisle Renaissance (The Cumberland News, February 12), one cannot help feeling that his views are akin to the captain of The Titanic quietly nipping below, donning civilian clothes and taking his place in the lifeboats.
