Triumphing over adversity is one of those things Britain is supposed to excel at.

The soggy summer may have put a dampener on outdoor activities but there is a solution... indoor barbecues!

This is the suggestion offered by kitchen retailer Betta Living, which is using the bad weather to publicise its range of indoor BBQs and grills.

A poll reveals that 96 per cent of us have had a BBQ party rained off, which begs the question of how the other four per cent have managed to avoid it.

Betta Living has come up with some tips on how to make an indoor BBQ feel like an al fresco affair. These include opening patio or kitchen doors, using plastic plates and glasses, and bringing garden furniture indoors.

So far so good. But if you really want to make it authentic, don’t forget to fit a shower nozzle to the ceiling to ensure your guests enjoy the feeling of being caught in a sudden downpour.
