Top class acts closer to home

The latest announcement of a big name performer to appear in the region confirms the county’s status as a location for high quality entertainment.

Julian Clary’s one-off gig at The Sands Centre in December is just one of many acts who have played and are set to perform at the venue.

Over the coming months the venue will play host to band Kasabian and comedians Jimmy Carr and Al Murray to name just a few.

Yet this is just one of the county’s many venues to pull in the big names, and the crowds.

Rock legends Status Quo play Whitehaven today while last week’s Maryport Blues Festival attracted Chuck Berry and Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.

We have a wealth of venues that cater for all types of acts, from international classical musicians at the Lake District Summer Music Festival, which began yesterday, to Carlisle Live later this month featuring pop favourites Boyzone and McFly.

We have shown that we can offer something to suit all ages and tastes and it seems that high quality national and international acts enjoy playing here.

We should be proud of the people who work hard to bring these acts to the county, meaning that we no longer have to travel to centres out of the county to see them.
