Destroying Tibet’s identity
Last updated 13:50, Thursday, 20 November 2008
No-one watching the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games could have been left in any doubt that China aims to rule the world.
In my childhood the Chinese were known as “the yellow peril” but this is unjust for the Chinese themselves suffer cruelly at the hands of those in power.
The Tibetan people today live as would have been our experience had Hitler been allowed to cross the channel in World War Two.
Gordon Brown’s endorsement of Chinese sovereignty over Tibet will surely go down in history as the most appalling error of judgement – one that will lose Britain respect and credibility throughout the world.
I am ashamed that a British Prime Minister can “party” with individuals using torture and a total denial of human rights to destroy the spirit and identity of Tibet.
