Stop city being dark and dirty

Re: Is Carlisle Getting Dirtier? (News & Star, November 6).
The whole city in general seems to be going downhill. Our area around Botcherby is a disgrace.
I had a word with one councillor about it and he informed me that they couldn’t employ a street cleaning operative for this area for health and safety reasons.
Grass is growing across the verges, and the steps leading down from Eastern Way into Durranhill are very dangerous with broken glass etc.
The other week I told the housing association about a playing area behind us where there are two televisions dumped. Since then there have been wardrobes and three piece suites added which are still there.
Something should be done about the cleaning of the city.

- I totally agree that Carlisle is becoming dirtier but I must also say that I think it is also becoming darker. We have phoned the Civic Centre three times to complain about our street lighting.
My daughters can’t see to put the key in the lock when they come home from work and we’ve left messages on answering machines and nobody has the decency to get back to us.
