AS an ex-union member I fully support the poorest paid public sector workers in their fight to get a decent wage, and all other poorly paid workers and I wish them well, but what does annoy me is the excessive salaries, perks and benefits that the union leaders receive and double inflation rises they have got.

THROUGH the News & Star I would like to thank three local boys who helped me find my cat.AN APPEAL to the people of Cockermouth. I am writing this letter to see if anyone can help me find anything out about my sister Jacqueline Eaton. IF CARLISLE’S central medical unit was to be situated in Denton Holme it would mean everyone except Longsowerby and parts of Morton would have to get two buses.AS A comparatively recent convert to mobile phones I have to confess that I think they are actually rather good. Texting is my “bag” so I must agree that overuse of the speech facilities in public is trying (News & Star, August 20).I WOULD like to state my disgust at Carlisle Housing Association being allowed to demolish very good homes on Seatoller Close in Morton, Carlisle, when many people are having their homes repossessed during the credit crunch.

WE have a reputation in this wonderful country of ours for accepting what we are told by people “in authority” is actually good for us. We are not by nature, a rebellious race, nor are we the type of people to take to the streets in mass protest.THE American Lemelson Institute has listed the mobile phone as “the world’s most hated modern tool,” and I’m thinking of joining the fight-back.
