I might have to start taking this seriously.....
It’s been a week now – and to be honest I’m pleasantly surprised.
You might have picked up on just the slightest hint of cynicism from my earlier blog postings, but I’m afraid that this diet might actually work.
In our new member chat last week the group leader advised us that we shouldn’t worry too much about leaving the class that night and getting straight into the diet the following morning. If we wanted to then great, but if we’d rather plough through the crap in our cupboards for a day or two before we got started then it was up to us, our choice, with the obvious caveat that we shouldn’t expect great results if we didn’t start until the day before the next weigh in.
Having secretly wanted to hit the ground running I’d pretty much demolished all of the crap in my house before I went to class last week. But having been given an open invitation to leave it a day or so the night out that was looming large last Saturday was all the excuse I needed to refill my cupboards with crap, and then proceeded to spend the next few days eating and drinking myself into calorific oblivion.
I finally started the diet on Sunday, just three days before yesterday’s weigh in. On day one I decided to have a ‘red’ day, where I ate as much meat as I wanted to but couldn’t have pasta, rice or potatoes. There isn’t much of a meal you can make without using those things if you are as limited as I am in terms of culinary skills, so for the rest of the week it’s been baked spud and beans (a green day!)
I am sure that there must be a better way to eat, and my friend has suggested that I read and digest the book we were given at our induction, but that all sounds far too sensible.
I wouldn’t say I wanted to fail – but if I’d put a pound on or stayed the same I could have easily had the excuse I was looking for not to come back.
However when I got weighed last night I was shocked to see I’d lost 4lb, despite the fact that I’d left it so late to get started.
The draw back hit me immediately; I am going to have to try it properly.
Who knows, I might even have to read the book.
