Nothing gentle about ratings trouncing
Last updated 09:21, Saturday, 12 July 2008
IT was Sunday and a Northumbrian variation on the Judge John Deed theme was scheduled to dominate BBC1’s evening with new cop drama George Gently.
And then Federer and Nadal came out to play – and they played, and played and played.
George – aka Martin Shaw – gently bit the dust of oblivion. He was cancelled without ceremony.
It’s true what they say about some having glory thrust upon them. The moral of this story for the Beeb is simple. Never underestimate the ratings power of Plan B.
