A refreshing glimpse of sportsmanship

It was glorious and agonising; dramatic and breathtaking. Five hours of spectacular play with not a swear word or rude gesture anywhere as a blot on the landscape.
Why can’t all sport be like the Wimbledon Men’s final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal?
Two supreme athletes – the best in the world – set talent against skill, energy against stamina, determination against burning will to win and still came out smiling, with nothing but praise for each other as worthy contestants for a coveted trophy.
Federer (Swiss) was unashamedly admiring of Nadal (Spanish) who’d broken his dream of a sixth Wimbledon title. “I played the worst opponent on the best court,” he joked.
Nadal said: “I’m very happy. I won but Roger is still the best in the world.”
What gents – and what a refreshing glimpse of that which we used to know as sportsmanship.
