Top totty, not top talent

WHISPER them only in the privacy of a soundproofed room. They’re dirty words these days. Television Awards... aka skullduggery.
Comedy awards dropping neatly into the black books opened by rigged TV voting shenanigans, the veracity of any result leading to raised trophy and embarrassing acceptance speech seems now to be about as genuine as Ant and Dec’s talent for wholesome humour. That’s what happens when trust is dumped on Robbie Williams’ say-so. But at least the British Soap awards stayed true to previous form with autocued jokes from hosts and presenters, bitten lips from losers and fake humility from winners.
Rob James Collier – Corrie’s Liam Connor, for instance – picking up his gong for being voted soap’s sexiest male was feigning exasperation when he rolled his eyes, hung his head and muttered with deeply sarcastic cynicism: “Yeah, thanks guys – for the appreciation of acting talent and that.”
Steady there, boy. What do you think you’re there for? Be grateful you’re The Street’s top totty... we are.
