Olympic Games security: Heads used to roll for things like this

Just when you decide it’s time to be positive about those Games – more beaten into submission than newly sporty – along come the circus clowns to hurl a few more gremlins into the works.

Have your say

Mr Evil McBad I can't help agreeing with everything you said, the sad thing is that this so called Labour Party did not help the situation by encouraging some privatisation when they were in power, what we need is a good clean out of rich politicians, and put in there place people who are not there just to feather there own nests.

Anne Pickles may get her wish - don'r be surprised if Jeremy Hunt is moved on after the Olympics (it's an open secret in Westminster that the Culture Secretary post will be broken up after London 2012)

Good thing that this epically wasteful London event relates only to physical endeavour and not mental. Given the general state of education in this country -- and, specifically, an understanding of politics and current affairs -- there'd have been a real risk of Team GB coming last. . . and especially if the captain had been a Mr Evil McBad, whose comment on this thread was more illuminating than he may have thought.

Mr Mcbad , once again you conflate one thing with another. The contract for he security of the Olympic games was awarded in December 2010, the decision to use a private sector security was made in July 2006 (national audit office report). The tendering process was began in early 2008.

So the question is, go are the conservatives to blame?

instead of highlighting all the problems why not come up with some solutions, let the football grounds holding matches sort out the security for instance they are used to handling big crowds!!

all the TA should have been called up to handle the security for these olympic games.reading between the lines G4S who do other security work for goverment DWP & Jobcentres will soon be replaced.

for several years we have known the olympics
have been comming, security should have been left to the armed forces with the terrotorials also involved. there are also thousands of stewards that work at our football and rugby grounds that could be employed to do the job.
unfortunatley tory ways are who can we get to do this the cheapest, and this is the result more british managerial failures

I look forward to seeing who joins the board at G4S in a few years time and to make matters worse enjoys a seat in the Lords. Whoever it is I wont be surprised its what comes with the brand of democracy we have learned from America.

i have worked in the security sector now for many yrs with one of the biggest security companies in the uk why was it allowed for g4s to take the contract on there own clearly it was too big for them too handle what should of been done is a share between the big three in the uk and these problems would not of happend if mitie security securitas security and g4s security was given a equal share too secure the games this disaster wouldnt of occurd.

Prepare for more of this kind of thing - the Tory abhorrence of public service and their worship of the private sector WILL lead to more instances where the profit motive subverts the service provided. Wait until G4S (or an equivalent thereof) are running the health service, the Police, schools - we are facing a very grim future.
