Woman, 23, assaulted on Carlisle street

A man has been arrested after a woman was assaulted in Carlisle.

The 30-year-old was apprehended on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm.

Police launched an investigation after a 23-year-old woman said she was hurt after being pulled to the ground on Wigton Road, between 11.30pm and 11.45pm on Saturday night.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area, near the junction of Peel Street, and saw what happened – potentially the couple arguing – to come forward.

Details can be passed to Detective Constable Cath McFadden on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The arrested man has been bailed while investigations continue.
