Whitehaven man in court on wounding charge

A Whitehaven man has appeared in court in connection with an alleged stabbing.

Rhys Mason, 33, has been charged with maliciously wounding a woman with intent to do her grievous bodily harm, assaulting a man by beating him and threatening behaviour.

Mason, of Peter Street, Whitehaven, did not enter a plea to any of the allegations when he appeared at West Cumbria Courthouse, Workington, yesterday.

He was arrested at an address at Calder Avenue, Whitehaven, in the early hours of Saturday.

Mason is further charged with assaulting a woman on two separate occasions last year, to which he has also entered no pleas.

All matters have been sent to Carlisle Crown Court where the defendant will first appear on March 3.
