A teenager proved to be her mum’s lucky charm – when she helped her scoop a new iPad for just 30p!

Lisa Twentyman won iPad in a News & Star reverse auction

Lisa Twentyman, 47, from Dearham, had dismissed the idea of entering the News & Star competition, believing “she’d never win”.

It was her 13-year-old daughter Jo Robinson who persuaded her to give it a go.

The idea of the reverse auction is to be the lowest unique bid at the end of the competition.

“She saw the competition in the paper and asked if we could have a go,” said Mrs Twentyman.

“She wanted to bid 1p, but I said everyone would do that so she should just pick a number and have one go.

“She picked 30p and only entered once.”

Mrs Twentyman could not have been more surprised when she received the phone call saying she’d won the new third generation iPad, worth at least £400.

“I never win anything,” she laughed. “But Jo is quite lucky – she won a raffle at Christmas. She’s my lucky charm; I can’t wait until she’s 16 and I’m getting her a lottery ticket!

“To win an iPad for just 30p is incredible, actually it’s unbelievable. We’ll definitely enter more competitions in the future – Jo has already persuaded me to enter the TV reverse auction.”

Jo and her mum travelled to the Cumbria Newspapers’ head office in Carlisle on Friday to pick up the prize.

They had been due to come tomorrow, when Jo’s brother returns from a festival, but the teenager could not wait to get her hands on it.

Mrs Twentyman said: “She’ll have it all set up by the end of the day.”
