West Cumbrian woman accused of causing pensioner's death

A woman will stand trial next month accused of causing the death of an elderly pedestrian by driving without due care and attention.

Rychenda Edgar, 22, of Dryden Way, Egremont, is charged with causing the death of Marjorie Borwick, who was on her way to her grandchild’s christening at St John’s Church, Bigrigg, when she was allegedly struck by a Ford Ka just outside the entrance to the church last December.

Mrs Borwick, 71, of Cockfield Drive, Workington, was taken to hospital but died from her injuries.

Edgar appeared at West Cumbria Magistrates’ Court and was committed to Carlisle Crown Court for trial in November.
