West Cumbrian school to close for funeral

A school will be closed tomorrow to allow staff to attend the funeral of the school’s cleaner.

Anne Nolan, cleaner-in-charge at Seascale Primary School, died at her home on The Drive, Seascale, after a short illness.

Mrs Nolan, 57, had worked at the school since January 2006.

Head Gillian Hartley issued a tribute on behalf of the school saying that Mrs Nolan would be missed by staff and pupils.

“The children remember her as a caring person who was always there to help them,” she said. “Anne enjoyed taking part in keep-fit sessions at the school and was often greeted by children as she cycled around the village. Our thoughts are with her family.”

Mrs Nolan leaves behind her husband Jim and teenage son Thomas.

Her funeral is tomorrow at Distington Hall Crematorium at 10.30am, followed by a service of thanksgiving at St Olaf’s Church in Wasdale, where Mrs Nolan is originally from, at 11.45am.

Family flowers only by request, with donations if desired to the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund, c/o Adams, Read & Hocking Funeral Directors, Fairbourne, Ennerdale Road, Cleator Moor, CA25 5LN.
