West Cumbrian mum and daughter to share big bingo win

A daughter is to share her £15,000 bingo win . . . with her mum.
In return, 60-year-old gran Winifred Fisher has vowed to spend the cash on her family, including her five-year-old granddaughter who nearly died from meningitis when she was just two years old.
Winifred and daughter Jennifer Wilson have been playing the game together for the last five years at Workington’s Opera House.
The pair, who live two doors away from each other on Gladstone Street in the town, couldn’t believe their luck after Jennifer scooped the top prize on Saturday night. And following family tradition, the 25-year-old will split the win with her mum.
Winifred said that she will not be spending it on herself as she has everything she needs, instead she’ll spoil her two grandchildren who she cares for, six-year-old Dylan and Molly, five. Molly, will shortly be having another operation as a result of the meningitis.
Her family were told to expect the worst when she contracted the virus, but she pulled through although she lost the toes on one foot and the tips of her toes on the other.
She will be going on holiday with her family on Good Friday to Fleetwood, where Mrs Fisher said she’ll spend some of her winnings. “I don’t know what to do with the rest of the money,” she said. “When we found out we’d won, we just screamed and shouted. We went home and were both on cloud nine all weekend.
Jennifer and her mum won the National Game and the regional and house prizes. “We were both surprised to win as I had only called on 47 numbers, which is quite high for a National Win, but we waited behind just to check,” said Jennifer. “When we found out we were so shocked and happy.
“I’m taking the kids on holiday later in the year so will spend some then. But I don’t have a clue what to spend the rest on – I haven’t had chance to think about it.”
Glen Buckley, Workington Opera Bingo Club manager said: “It was such a great Mother’s Day gift for both Jennifer and Winifred and it’s lovely to know that Winifred’s grandchildren are going to benefit.”
