Weather warning for north Cumbria

The Met Office is warning that thunderstorms and torrential rain could hit north Cumbria later today.

Forecasters say: "Showers will turn heavy and possibly thundery.

"Although some areas will avoid the showers completely, other locations could see rainfall accumulations of 10 to 15 mm in an hour or less, and 20 to 30 mm in just a few hours.

"The public should be aware that some disruption due to surface water flooding is possible."

They expect the showers to die away this evening.
