A man was airlifted to hospital with spinal injuries after falling 40ft while out walking near Buttermere.
It happened at Scale Force beck just before 1pm yesterday. The injured man was a member of a Scout party.
He was initially treated by members of Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team before being airlifted to the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven.
The Cockermouth rescue team were also called early on Saturday to search for a party of walkers taking part in an organised 10 peaks challenge.
The group called the police after becoming lost in Loft Beck/Seavy Knott area of Ennerdale.
They were found at about 2.30am. All were fit and well but suffering from the cold.
