Ex-Town chairman Geoffrey Tubman, 60, of Portland Square, Workington, and Richard Tubman, 29, of Causeway Road, Seaton, appeared before district judge Gerald Chalk in Workington. They each face 10 charges, relating to the trading of their company, Nuclear & Mechanical Services Ltd, known as Numech, based at Workington.

The charges apply to goods supplied by the company, when it had not paid the Commissioners of Customs and Excise a “security” in the sum of £81,150.

A security is requested by HMRC in certain cases for VAT “which is or may become due” from a company.

The charges fall under the Value Added Tax Act 1994 and date between October 2010 and June 2012.

On June 12 the case was adjourned at the request of the defence.

But Geoffrey Tubman’s solicitor, Mike Woolaghan, told Judge Chalk there had been a further delay as the defendants had changed solicitors and the paperwork had not all been sent.

Judge Chalk agreed to adjourn the case until July 10 and put the defendants on unconditional bail.

Numech, was launched in 2010. Its website lists Geoffrey Tubman as managing director while his son is named as operations director.
