A university student back home for the summer holidays was caught drink-driving.
Caitlin Rose Wigmore, 20, of The Grove, Scotby, admitted the offence when she appeared before city magistrates.
The court heard how on July 22 at 3.40am police officers noticed a Honda Civic car driving through the city centre without lights.
When stopped Wigmore, who was driving, failed a roadside breath test.
She was arrested and taken to Carlisle police station where a second breath test showed she had 45mcgm of alcohol in 100ml of breath.
Malcolm Dodds, defending, told the court Wigmore was home from Leeds University and had gone out with friends.
During the evening one of her friends took ill. She was unable to get a taxi so Wigmore drove her car.
Magistrates banned Wigmore for 14 months and fined her £110.
