Two customers foil Cumbrian building society robbery

Police have praised two men who helped foil a robbery at a west Cumbrian building society.

The customers pinned the suspect to the floor of the Cumberland Building Society in Cleator Moor until police arrived.

A 28-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Sergeant Laura Robinson said: “At 4.27pm we received a call that the building society at Cleator Moor was being robbed.

“We attended and members of the public had the male detained inside the premises. They had apprehended him and had him on the floor.

“We are very grateful to them for their assistance.

“They have stopped what could have been a dangerous situation.”

No weapons were recovered.
