Two children in Cumbrian river drama

Two children sparked an emergency callout after getting into difficulties in the River Ehen at Cleator.

While on route to the scene behind the old Kangol factory, an update stated that the children were out of the water and safe and well.

Whitehaven coastguard, police and firefighters were alerted after the reports were received just after 2.30pm yesterday.

Coastguards have now issued a holiday warning to families about the dangers of going into rivers or the sea. A spokesman said: “Please be extra vigilant around the coast and on rivers and bodies of water during the holidays.”
