Spooky shenanigans and ghostly goings-on will be investigated at Carlisle Castle today.

Yvette Fielding and the Most Haunted team will be in Carlisle

The crew from Living TV’s Most Haunted show will be camped out through the night in the hope of spotting some spectres.

The programme, fronted by former Blue Peter host Yvette Fielding, sees experts hunt for ghouls at Britain’s most renowned haunted houses.

Carlisle Castle is reputedly stalked by a ghostly woman.

In 1823, a soldier was apparently so frightened when he encountered her that he bayoneted the apparition, impaling the wall behind it.

He is alleged to have fainted and died of shock the following day.

Three years earlier, a woman clothed in tartan was supposedly discovered bricked up on a staircase in the Captain’s Tower.

She was holding a young child and her costume was said to date back to Elizabethan times.

In more recent times, the alarms at the castle’s King’s Own Border Regiment museum were reportedly set off three nights in a row in 1992.

An apparition moving under an arch between the exhibition and the gift shop area was rumoured to be the culprit.

On a previous trip to Cumbria, the Most Haunted team captured some “spectacular phenomena” at Brougham Hall, Penrith.

They were invited by manager of the Old Smokehouse at the hall, Neil Harrison.

He claimed to have witnessed glasses being smashed, taps turning themselves on and ghosts appearing.

The crew were joined by Carlisle medium Martin Smith, for the visit.

Most Haunted has previously asked owners of Dalston Hall Hotel, near Carlisle, if they can film there.

Room four at the hotel is notorious for its ghost: a lady called Catherine.

Muncaster Castle in west Cumbria is said to be one of the most haunted places in Britain.
