Millions of TV viewers will see two former Coronation Street and Carry On stars serve astonished customers inside the Grasmere Gingerbread Shop in Cumbria.
Amanda Barrie and Sherrie Hewson’s Grasmere Gingerbread-wrapping skills will also be revealed during ITV’s flagship daytime show This Morning to be shown later this month.
The veteran actors turned heads in Grasmere during filming of their comic Carry on Camping series which brings them to the Lake District and other popular holiday spots in the UK.
“They were an absolute hoot,” said Joanne Wilson, manager of the Grasmere Gingerbread shop and a partner in the business.
“I’m a huge fan of Coronation Street and loved the characters Alma and Maureen who they played in the soap a few years ago.”
This Morning will screen their Carry on Camping series, which will feature the Grasmere Gingerbread slot – this Monday and Tuesday.
Before filming, Amanda and Sherrie enjoyed a few slices of gingerbread with their morning coffee. “Scru-mptious!” said Sherrie while Amanda said it was “powerful with a real oompphhh!”
But despite becoming fans of the biscuit they shouldn’t give up their day jobs, advised Joanne Wilson after giving them an intensive course in wrapping gingerbread in special parchment.
“I don’t want to give anything away but I’m not sure if they are quite up to scratch as busy shop assistants,” she said.
