Transport police appeal after sectarian chants on Carlisle-bound train
Published at 16:55, Wednesday, 11 April 2012
A group of men who chanted sectarian songs on board a Carlisle-bound train are being sought by British Transport Police.
The singing on board Saturday's 7.12pm Glasgow to Carlisle service was totally unacceptable, say officers, who want witnesses to come forward.
“The train was busy, with a lot of passengers returning from the Rangers against St Mirren match at the Ibrox stadium,” said PC Alistair Brewer.
“As the train left Kilmarnock station, a small minority of the group began to sing sectarian songs in front of other passengers, many of who were travelling with young children.
“What these passengers had to endure is totally unacceptable. I’d ask for anyone who witnessed this unpleasant behaviour to contact BTP.”
Anyone with information should telephone the BTP on 0800 40 50 40 quoting incident number 491 of 07/04/2012.
