Woman hurt in three-vehicle crash

A woman has been taken to hospital following a three-car crash which closed part of a motorway junction.

The Skirsgill roundabout at Penrith, which links the A66 and M6, was closed for around two hours following the incident.

The woman from Penrith, who was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, was driving a Peugeot 207 when the collision happened shortly after 9.15am today. Her injuries are not believed to be serious.

The drivers of the two other cars - a 75-year-old man behind the wheel of a Skoda Octavia and a 71-year-old man from Penrith driving a Citroen DS5 - were not hurt.

Police are appealing for any witnesses, who can call PC Norman Black on 101.
