A busy north Cumbrian road was closed for six hours after a serious crash.
Three people were trapped by the smash on the A69 between Naworth Castle and Low Row, near Brampton and had to be freed by firefighters.
A white Citroen Berlingo van, travelling westbound, was involved in a collision with a white Vauxhall Combo van, heading in the opposite direction, shortly after 5pm yesterday.
The 37-year-old driver of the Vauxhall, a man from the north east, was taken by ambulance to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle suffering from multiple fractures.
His condition was described as “serious but stable”.
His passenger, a 36-year-old man, escaped without injury.
The driver of the Citroen, a 35-year-old man, is believed to have fractured his collarbone in the crash and was also taken to hospital for treatment.
Cumbria police closed the road for six hours while they carried out accident investigation work.
Anyone who saw the collision, or saw either of the two vehicles in the minutes leading up the crash, should contact the Northern Roads Policing Unit at Carlisle on 101.
