Three in court charged with neglect at north Cumbria care home

Three people are in court this morning charged in connection with alleged incidents at a north Cumbria nursing home.

It follows an investigation by police into safeguarding issues at the Beacon Edge Nursing Home in Penrith.

Those charged are:

  • Chevonne Benson, 22, of Roman Road, Penrith. Charged with seven counts of ill treatment/wilful neglect against six people between April 1 and September 2 last year.
  • William Bowman, 21, of Bowscar, near Penrith. Charged with 10 counts of ill treatment/wilful neglect against nine alleged victims between January 26 and September 3 last year. He is also charged with committing a sexual offence against a woman in the Penrith area.
  • Claire Strong, 20, of Clifton, near Penrith. Charged with three counts of ill treatment/wilful neglect against three people between January 1 and June last year.

They were appearing before Carlisle magistrates.
