Police said three people were arrested following the crime, carried out on a Carlisle street in broad daylight.

Officers added the woman, who is aged in her 50s, was not badly hurt in the robbery on Lorne Street, Denton Holme. It happened at 4.45pm on Sunday.

The force said “significant inquiries” were carried out and two men and a woman, all from Carlisle, were held on suspicion of robbery.

They were quizzed by detectives before being released on police bail.

Police issued a description of a suspect, saying they were 5ft 6ins tall, in their twenties, had brown hair and wore a red t-shirt and jeans.

They said a man was seen making off down Lorne Street towards Blencoe Street.

The three people, two men aged 34 and 36 and a woman, aged 23, all from Carlisle, were bailed until September 12.

A force spokesman said: “Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is encouraged to come forward.” Call police on 101.
