Threat led to extra time in jail for Haverigg inmate

A Haverigg inmate who made “serious threats” to a probation officer has been given a further four-month jail term.

William Brown, 30, was said to have exploded into a rage during a meeting at the Cumbrian prison to discuss the subject of a home detention curfew.

A court heard he went on to send a threatening letter to a probation officer, part of which read: “I won’t be responsible for my actions. I would be out now if it were not for you”.

The woman was upset by what was sent to her.

Brown had vented his frustrations at Alison Rae following the sudden death of his father and his failed hope of being released on home detention.

He pleaded guilty at Preston Crown Court to the charge of harassment, putting someone in fear.

A year ago he was jailed for two years for nine offences and breaching a community order.
