The band, best known for classics like The Boys are Back in Town and Whiskey in the Jar played in Carlisle’s Market Hall in 1983 and now, nearly 30 years later, they are finally heading back.

Formed in Dublin in 1969, the band were fronted by bassist Phil Lynott and released more than 10 albums. They will play at the Sands Centre on August 17 – part of an exciting summer of music in the city.

Tickets for Thin Lizzy are available from the Sands Centre and cost £29.50 plus booking fee.

Have your say

Ive recently seen Thin Lizzy with Ricky, GnR without Slash, Black Sabbath without Bill and these shows have been without a doubt some of the best ive seen - people get over it - life goes on and its too short to sit at home and whinge about how things aren't the same as the old days! Im coming to Carlisle to see the show as im sure lots of Scots will so if you dont want to see them more tickets for us! Oh and Bruce D is not the original singer with Maiden!

Garry also did some work on the material for the Nightlife album, after Eric Bell left. Although the final recordings were done by Brian Robertson. Eric Bell and Brian Downey were the first true members of Thin Lizzy. Eric actualy only wanted Brian to join him but Phil also joined to play Bass. The name Thin Lizzy was agreed on between these three members. As Brian still plays with the band i would have thought he is quite within his rights to still use the name Thin Lizzy. The classic Thin Lizzy lineup was actually the 3rd or 4th lineup, so should they have dropped the name after Eric left.
