Thieves drill holes in car petrol tanks to steal fuel

Crooks have drilled holes into petrol tanks of parked vehicles to siphon off fuel.

Two cars have been damaged in recent incidents which are being investigated by police.

Both occurred overnight on April 22-23.

Thieves drilled six holes into the tank of a Vauxhall Corsa parked at Margery Terrace, Cummersdale, Carlisle and then extracted half a tank of fuel. This happened between 6pm on April 22 and 8am the following day.

The same method was used to siphon half a tank of fuel from a Vauxhall Astra at Rockcliffe.

Pc Mark Robson urged anyone with information about the thefts to contact them.

"Stealing fuel from another vehicle is not just a crime but it is also dangerous to the road users as fuel will continue to leave the tanks through the drilled holes after the offenders have gone,” he added.

Call police on 101.
