Ten staff at Allerdale council have been made redundant today in the latest stage of the council’s bid to cut costs.

The employees were among 40 people who were told last month that their jobs were at risk of being scrapped under a council restructure.

They had been due to find out last Thursday whether they would be kept on but the consultation period was extended to allow further discussions.

Chief executive Harry Dyke confirmed this afternoon that five full-time and five part-time jobs had been lost.

He said: “Considerable effort has gone into seeking redeployment opportunities for staff and a small number of staff have also left through voluntary redundancy.

“Despite this, regrettably, 10 employees have been issued with notice of redundancy.”

The jobs have gone in organisational development and transformation, finance, development services, community services, and business and property services.

Mr Dyke said there were still some vacancies in the restructuring programme and the council where possible would try to redeploy staff who had been made redundant.
