Eight men are to go on trial in the summer accused of plotting to fake lorries’ tachograph records.

Another five – including a man from Southwaite near Carlisle – are now awaiting sentence, having pleaded guilty to the same offence.

All thirteen men were charged after their vehicles were stopped by investigators from the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency – part of the Department for Transport – near Penrith.

Most of them entered their pleas when they appeared before a judge at Carlisle Crown Court.

But Allan Lockerbie, 53, of Barrock View, Southwaite, was not among them.

His attendance was excused after he pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to conspiring together with others to make false tachograph records between May 31 2009, and July 1 2010.

The trial – and the sentencing of Lockerbie and all the others convicted – will take place at Newcastle Crown Court, probably in July.
