Surprise closure of Carlisle restaurant

One of Carlisle’s top-rated restaurants has ceased trading.
The Holme Bistro in Denton Holme has been closed since Thursday last week after a notice appeared in the window informing customers it was closing its doors for good.
The bistro was one of the areas most-established eateries and highly rated on online review sites such as TripAdvisor.
Councillors say it is a blow to the area and one less attraction to encourage visitors. It was run by brother and sister duo Robert Don and Kirsty Robson who bought the business in 2008, their first joint venture.
Kirsty, who trained at Carlisle College, previously worked at Sharrow Bay Country House at Ullswater and Gallo Rosso Italian restaurant before taking the reigns at the Holme Bistro.
The reasons for its closure are unknown, however its owners left a message to customers on the window.
The notice reads: “The management regret to announce the closure of the restaurant from July 31 2014.
“We would like to thank all our customers for their support over the last six years.”
The restaurant was seemingly a popular eatery in the city and held monthly tapas and gourmet burger nights, which had to become twice-monthly due to customer demand.
It also regularly attracted diners from outside Carlisle including Annan, Penrith, Wigton and Thursby.
Hugh McDevitt, one of Denton Holme’s city councillors, said it was a blow.
“Anything like this that closes down is one less attraction for people to come to Denton Holme and spend money. I have used it myself and it was a good-quality small restaurant,” he said.

Have your say
Always sad when a small but successful and clearly loved business closes. However don't assume that all businesses close becuase they are unsuccessful. When it's down to one or two key people it can be very hard sometimes, so give a little understanding they have tried very hard and made many friends.
i am not surprised im afraid, went in for the steak night a while ago ,ive had many a medium to well done steak elsewhere, but what they brought me was a rare steak bursting with blood, they offered to cook it further....!!!! it came back exactly the same,,,they still charged me for it,,,i got a free bottle of wine...mmmm.....awful
