Stricken leisure boat escorted into Cumbrian harbour

A Workington lifeboat crew has escorted a 38ft leisure boat back to Whitehave Harbour after its engines failed.

The two people on board were unharmed.

A Coastguard spokesman said today that the crew of the boat, a cabin cruiser called Firefly, radioed for help shortly before 2pm from a location 22 miles out to sea south west of Whitehaven.

One engine on the boat had failed while the second was overheating.

A Coastguard spokesman said: "Everybody on board was okay and the boat was escorted back to Whitehaven Harbour by the Workington all-weather lifeboat and met by Whitehaven Coastguard. They reached the harbour at 4.17pm."
