Six arrested in west Cumbria police blitz on drink drivers

Six people were arrested for allegedly drink driving across Copeland as part of an ongoing clampdown by police.

Three of them, all young men aged 18 to 21, were arrested on Friday night.

In one incident a car ended up on its roof.

The arrests were part of a wider police operation targeting rogue motorists in the Copeland area.

They include drink drivers, those using mobile phones, not wearing seatbelts, breaking the speed limit and driving without insurance.

Young drivers under the age of 25 are the key focus as evidence shows they are most at risk of being involved in a collision. The campaign aims to cut the numbers killed or injured.

Officers have identified that Copeland often suffers a higher than average number of crashes in the summer months.

It began at the start of June, with more than 70 driving offences being spotted by officers.
